Core Stability

Hip Checks

Many pro and college ballplayers focus on increasing their brute strength with intense sets of squats or reps on a bench press machine. Although adding strength is helpful, if you aren't able to engage your core muscles at the plate, your swings will continue to be inconsistent.

You need to consider your hips. After all, where your hips go, your body will follow. This principle is as true for dancing as it is for swinging a baseball bat. To synchronize your hips to smoothly follow your bat swing, you need to isolate your hip flexor muscles with resistance training.

Balance training equipment often includes resistance bands that stimulate isometric muscle contractions and eccentric muscle lengthening. When choosing resistance bands for improving your baseball swing, you should look for stout bands that require more torque to pull. These bands will help you develop the muscle movements you'll need to get more power from your hips into your baseball swings.
